Outlook for 2011-15: Fiscal policy

Having announced US$36bn of new spending initiatives in February, aimed at forestalling any spread of regional unrest to Saudi Arabia, the king launched a second major economic package in March, worth a further US$93bn. As with the first package, most of the spending will be used to support homebuyers-it also includes a significant allocation for residential construction-to provide benefits for the unemployed and to increase public-sector pay.
