Economy: Unemployment grows

Government statistics for September show a rise in unemployment for the second consecutive month. The number of people unemployed rose by 1,000 in August and by a further 1,400 in September, reaching 105,800. Although September's official unemployment rate of 2.3% still remains low, it represents a notable setback for a government committed to full employment.
